Fingerpainting fun

Posted 07-29-2008 at 02:27 PM by jamie
Today was such a beautiful day that I decided to try to get Kate outside as much as possible. She wanted to do something "crafty"so I set her up at her plastic picnic table with finger paints and paper. If you don't have an easily cleanable surface outside, I recommend buying an inexpensive shower curtain liner and placing it over a table or the grass! Kate took huge blobs of paint and rubbed them onto her hands before she began.

Getting a new dog/puppy

Posted 07-29-2008 at 10:26 AM by TeachinLittleOnes
We are looking into getting a new puppy! There are so many different choices as far as which breed of dog, do we get a puppy or a dog from the sheltar and then how old should our children be when we get the dog.
We went to the website Matchup: Your dream dog | DogTime and were able to determine through some questions/answers which dog would work best for our living situation. It was very insightful and I would suggest doing this before you look into any other dogs!

Dealing with death

Posted 07-27-2008 at 02:40 PM by TeachinLittleOnes
My close friend and her husband have two children. 3 years old and 15 months! One of her children (the younger one) just contracted HIB menigitis and after only two weeks of fighting past away this Thursday morning. It has been a very difficult time for everyone. But I was wondering if anyone has a child in their family who they have had to explain death to and how did they handle it. We are looking for ways to encourage the family and especially they other son! Thanks!

I picked up this fun game called Bananagrams recently. It is a cute cloth banana that contains 144 letter tiles. I thought it would be a good way to incorporate letter recognition exercises with Kate's love of tiny things. I underestimated the value of this game as Kate has already learned so much by using the letters.

We haven't been able to follow the rules that the manufacturer wrote, (since Kate is only three) but that doesn't mean that we haven't had a great time playing with...

Making moving easier on kids!

Posted 07-21-2008 at 11:54 AM by TeachinLittleOnes
When you find out that you're moving, a million thoughts may race through your head. The next place those thoughts should go is simple: out of your mouth! IVoice your opinions to your children honestly! Ask them: Are you afraid that you won't make new friends, nervous about riding the bus with 30 new kids, or upset because you have to give up your position as captain of the soccer team? tell them not to keep in to themself. .

Here are some tips for kids:
